McIntyre said he had already played a section of the game and called the experience “visceral, immediate, and so incredibly satisfying,” adding, “I was like, ‘this is gonna be amazing.'” That kind of enthusiasm from the lead actor raises expectations for engaging, responsive combat.
Insomniac has described the game as darker and more brutal than players might expect from the studio, and after the controversial “claws up through the face” moment—one the director worried might be “too far”—the footage certainly feels grittier than previous Insomniac outings.
