Can One of Steam’s Worst Games Be Saved? The Developers of Football Manager 26 Have a Plan

The latest entry in the franchise has drawn a great deal of criticism from players.

Football Manager 26 was released recently. The developers skipped an FM25 launch, but that hiatus, judging by the outcome, appears to have offered little advantage.

At launch, the new title accumulated so many negative reviews on Steam that it ranked among the top 10 lowest-rated games by user score (a large portion of the backlash targets the redesigned interface — players describe it as highly unintuitive).

The creators of Football Manager 26 have begun addressing the issues and released update 26.0.4. It contains more than 300 fixes and quality-of-life improvements — a variety of bugs, freezes and crashes have been resolved.

Instances where the date field displayed “01.01.1900” should no longer occur, and the Career → Managerial Vacancies section will now show both men’s and women’s teams.

In addition, the Football Manager 26 team shared details about several features designed to boost the realism and cinematic feel of matches. This installment was developed on the Unity engine, and the pre-match cutscenes have been revamped.

The Dynamic Highlight Mode will adapt to a match’s intensity and importance — showing more standout moments when the action heats up, and fewer when the result is effectively decided.

The new 2D match view: “Interactivity makes this feature even more powerful. Spot something interesting in the 2D view? Simply click it and the game will jump straight to that moment.”
