Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has launched. Servers are already live, but early reactions to the campaign point to several problems.
Earlier coverage from international outlets praised the game’s pacing and multiplayer, but hours after the global release regular players began sharing their impressions — and some of the shine faded. The multiplayer is being welcomed with enthusiasm, while the single-player campaign has quickly come under sharp criticism.
On Steam the verdict is clear: reviews are “mixed,” with only 44% of users leaving positive ratings. This isn’t an isolated disappointment but a growing pattern — the story in the new entry has split the community and failed to win over many players.
The main grievances focus on the campaign’s structure: a short runtime, no option to pause, and a lack of checkpoints — forcing players to repeat long sections after each setback.
Some complaints have tipped into ridicule. The campaign includes supernatural and even paranormal elements that feel out of place next to the serious narrative Activision promoted ahead of release. Players have noted a stark 180-degree shift from what was promised.
Numerous clips, memes and bizarre scenes from the campaign are circulating online. They appear hourly, and some are so absurd it’s hard to believe they survived into the final release. Examples on X: 1, 2.
