The landscape shifted once more when GTA 6 faced its own set of delays last November, eventually sliding into a late 2026 release slot.

Interestingly, the high concentration of former Battlefield talent at Embark created a unique dynamic. While they avoided Rockstar, they were perfectly comfortable challenging the genre’s heavyweights. Arc Raiders was “intentionally” positioned between Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7—a gamble that paid off handsomely. By the end of the year, Arc Raiders had surged ahead, claiming the top spot on Steam’s best-seller list during the critical holiday season.

“As we saw more of Battlefield 6, we were impressed, though we hadn’t seen much from Call of Duty at the time,” Söderlund noted. “Ultimately, we reached a point where we knew the game was ready for the public.”

Söderlund argues that “sandwiching” Arc Raiders between two established FPS icons actually worked in their favor, bolstered by the competitive $40 price point.

“We were confident that we could compete on our own terms,” says Söderlund. “We never viewed it as a direct Battlefield clone; we felt the game possessed enough mechanical uniqueness to stand independently.”

“Our internal data and technical tests, including our final ‘Server Slam’ right before launch, provided us with the KPIs we needed to feel secure. We offered an experience that was fundamentally different from the competition.”
