Academy Award winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale are reportedly in the final stages of negotiations to headline the upcoming sequel, “Heat 2,” as exclusively reported by TheWrap.
DiCaprio is slated to portray an older Chris Shiherlis, the role originally played by Val Kilmer. Meanwhile, Bale is expected to step into the shoes of LAPD detective Vincent Hanna, a character made iconic by Al Pacino in the original film. Michael Mann is set to return to the director’s chair.
Industry insiders suggest that casting is also underway for other key roles, with Adam Driver being considered for the antagonist Chrisla Wardell, and “This Is England” star Stephen Graham potentially taking on the role of master thief Neil McCauley, famously portrayed by Robert De Niro in the 1995 classic. The casting for the older iteration of Ashley Judd’s character remains unconfirmed.
Functioning as both a prequel and a sequel to the 1995 masterpiece, “Heat 2” is based on the 2022 novel co-authored by Mann and Meg Gardiner. Production is tentatively scheduled to begin this November, though an official release date has yet to be determined.
