PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is getting an explosive update on Nov. 3 for PC and Nov. 11 for consoles. The update is already available on the PUBG test server.

Patch 14.2 only includes a few new additions to the battle royale game, but all of them should make a big impact on dedicated players. The new Mortar weapon — only available on the new Taego map — is able to blow enemy squads up at extreme ranges. However, to use it effectively, teams will need to calculate the range and practice their accuracy.

Unlike the Mortar, the M79 Smoke Grenade Launcher can appear on any map, and is a new support weapon for players. As the name implies, the M79 can lay a cover of smoke to hide allies and provide tactical advantages.

Finally, players won’t immediately die if they’re downed in water anymore. Players who are downed swim at half the speed of normal players. Krafton gave some context on this addition, saying water was too hazardous to traverse without the ability to swim back to safety. The slow swim speed still makes boats dangerous in PUBG, but the enhanced mobility should encourage players to get their feet wet more often.

The rest of the patch is mostly small world improvements like chickens, additional custom maps, ranked mode and esports changes, and arcade mode additions. You can check out the full patch notes on the PUBG website.
