New Warhammer 40,000 Word Bearers and Death Korps of Krieg Novels Coming in 2026

Next year, Black Library will expand the grim darkness of the far future with the release of David Annandale’s Apostle and Rauridh James’s Death Rider. These upcoming novels invite readers back into the Warhammer 40,000 universe, weaving dark tales centered on the Chaos zealot Cerastus and the pragmatic Commissar Vallian Hesh.

In a surprise announcement, Black Library unveiled two new additions to the Warhammer 40,000 literary canon. Scheduled for release early next year, the first title is David Annandale’s latest work, Apostle.

Apostle by David Annandale

The story follows Cerastus, a warrior of the Word Bearers Legion, whose life is shattered when his host is annihilated by the Order of the Thorn—the formidable sisters of the Adepta Sororitas. Left with nothing, he must forge a new path of corruption, attempting to turn the world of Legitur toward the Primordial Truth while evading the shadow of the Ecclesiarchy.

Legitur is a world defined by its obsession with the Imperial Creed, where teeming masses of fanatical scribes and laborers spend their lives crafting holy scriptures for the Imperium.

Death Rider by Rauridh James

Looking further ahead, pre-orders for Rauridh James’s Death Rider are expected to open in 2026. This narrative centers on Commissar Vallian Hesh as he faces the daunting task of managing the 472nd Regiment of the Death Korps of Krieg. As they stand upon the doomed soil of Rezlan VI, the Kriegers are intent on a final, suicidal charge against the T’au Empire—an outcome Hesh must prevent if he is to save the regiment from total erasure.
