Elder Scrolls 6 Designer Backs GTA VI Delay: “It’s a Wise Decision”

Emil Pagliarulo, Bethesda’s lead designer for The Elder Scrolls 6, recently remarked that Rockstar’s decision to delay GTA VI was the “wisest move they could have made.”

He explained that titles of such immense scale require significant time not just for core development, but for exhaustive polishing and the elimination of technical flaws.

“What do the fans truly want: a game released prematurely that falls short of expectations, or a ‘slow-cooked turkey’ that is perfectly ready and satisfying when it finally hits the table?”

Pagliarulo pointed to instances like Cyberpunk 2077 and Fallout: New Vegas as cautionary examples of how a rushed launch can jeopardize a studio’s reputation. Ambitious projects of this magnitude are built to last; for example, Skyrim continues to receive new ports and updates even 14 years after its original debut.

He reaffirmed that prioritizing quality over a fast release schedule is the guiding principle for Bethesda, especially concerning the development of The Elder Scrolls 6:

“We are going to dedicate every moment necessary to ensure that the final experience is nothing short of exceptional.”
