New “Friday the 13th” in Development as Franchise Prepares to Return

The Friday the 13th franchise is making a comeback after an extended period of uncertainty. Game director Vincent DiSanti of Womp Stomp Films revealed that both a new game and a film are being planned long-term under the “Jason Universe” banner. Horror Inc. officially confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 that development on the new game is already underway.

DiSanti noted the franchise is entering a second major phase following collaborations with Fortnite, Call of Duty, Youtooz, and Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights. Neither the new game nor the film are expected before 2027. The upcoming game will be considerably larger in scope than the ill-fated 2017 multiplayer: it will receive greater resources, adopt a more realistic visual style, and be guided by a dedicated creative direction. The original Friday the 13th: The Game was taken offline at the end of 2024 due to licensing issues.

DiSanti also confirmed that long-time composer Harry Manfredini is contributing conceptual music. The film is not yet in active production and has no studio attached; the Barsamian team is concentrating on smaller projects, including the short Sweet Revenge.

The franchise will additionally expand through comics and books. The Barsamians are personally invested in refreshing the brand, aiming to balance nostalgia with a modern sensibility. While no firm release dates have been announced, new resources and a long-term strategy signal the return of Jason Voorhees and the beginning of a new era for the series.
