Indie developer’s tortoise-and-duck platformer hits 97% “Very Positive” on Steam — fans paid for his wedding and dog’s meds in a week, but sales barely break even

For many aspiring developers, PeekingBoo’s candid account is a clear reminder that positive reviews and critical attention don’t automatically translate into financial security. Windswept is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, Steam and the Epic Games Store, which highlights how difficult it can be for small teams to turn visibility into sustainable income.

On November 30 — 19 days after launch — PeekingBoo posted an update saying he’d since “broke even,” meaning sales have recouped the game’s development costs. From that point forward any additional revenue is profit, but it remains uncertain whether earnings will be sufficient to cover personal and family needs or to fund future projects.
