Hollywood has officially begun work on the fifth installment of the “Men in Black” franchise, media outlets report.
Sony Pictures has enlisted Chris Bremner (writer of “Bad Boys for Life”) to draft the screenplay. It remains unclear whether Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will return to their signature roles. Plot specifics have not been disclosed.
The original “Men in Black” premiered in 1997 and followed covert agents tasked with overseeing extraterrestrial activity on Earth.
The most recent entry, “Men in Black: International,” was released in 2019, with Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson stepping into the lead roles previously held by Smith and Jones. The franchise has grossed approximately $1.9 billion worldwide.
