
Put simply, this would restore the classic Civilization experience of guiding one faction from antiquity to the space age — whether that’s ancient Egypt or the United States — rather than binding each civilization to a narrow historical window, which is a central departure in Civ 7’s design.
Because assigning civilizations to specific Ages has proved controversial, Firaxis appears keen to give players a choice between the new system and a more traditional mode. The studio is also collecting player feedback as it develops additional changes.
To that end, the Firaxis Feature Workshop will let a small group of community members test upcoming features before they go live and report on what works, what doesn’t, and what’s missing. Firaxis says it will post application details on the Civ 7 Discord, so active community members should watch that channel for updates.
