Borderlands 4 Horrors of Kairos

“I know it’s free and free is good, but this isn’t it,” Borderlands creator and streamer JoltzDude139 writes on X. “Driving circles for 20 minutes just to get one rift bubble and not get a new drop feels bad. It’s a Knoxx DLC driving simulator.” View the post.

Feedback from creators and players echoes similar frustrations. “I know it’s just a mini-event but compared to what we had in Borderlands 3 it’s a huge step down,” says video creator Moxsy, noting that BL3 delivered a unique area, a bespoke boss, fresh loot and anointments. See the thread.

Modder and dataminer EpicNNG is even more blunt: “I legitimately think it may be a top five worst content drop of all time in this franchise,” they post on X. “Free or not, it does not give it a pass on criticism. Legit what else have they released that is worse than this event?” Read more.

To the developers’ credit, the update delivers a spooky aesthetic — but not the kind most players hoped for. Horrors of Kairos runs through November 6, if you want to see it for yourself.

Borderlands 4 set several U.S. sales records for Gearbox — the fastest-selling entry in the series, the first to open as the month’s top seller, and the third-best-selling title of 2025, according to an analyst.
