A new video gives retro gamers — and others — a chance to see what’s inside the box of the clamshell, dual-screen portable AYN Thor, and how well it handles games from Android, 3DS, Wii U, and DS platforms.
AYN’s team continues to share material about the portable clamshell console featuring two AMOLED screens — the Thor — whose shipments are scheduled to begin in mid-October.
Today the developers uploaded a video that shows an unboxing of the device. The clip also includes footage of the team playing several titles from Android, Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, and Nintendo DS.
The Thor’s top 6-inch display offers a 1080×1920 resolution, a high 120 Hz refresh rate, 650 nits of brightness, and a 100,000:1 contrast ratio. Its color coverage is rated at roughly 152% of sRGB.
By contrast, the smaller lower screen (3.92 inches) runs at 1080×1240 with a 60 Hz refresh rate and 550 nits peak brightness. It shares the same contrast ratio and delivers about 150% sRGB color coverage.
The console runs Android 13 and will be available in four trims: Lite, Base, Pro, and Max. The Lite model is powered by a Snapdragon 865 with an Adreno 650 GPU at 587 MHz, paired with 8 GB of LPDDR4x RAM at 2133 MHz and 128 GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
The Base, Pro, and Max configurations employ the more powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with an Adreno 740 GPU at 680 MHz. LPDDR5x memory (4200 MHz) is offered in 8 GB, 12 GB, or 16 GB variants, and UFS 4.0 internal storage options include 128 GB, 256 GB, or 1 TB.
At the moment, the AYN Thor with 8 GB RAM, 128 GB storage, and the Snapdragon 865 is listed at $249 (20,852 RUB), while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 model with 8 GB/128 GB is priced at $299 (25,039 RUB). The complete price list can be found in the previous news item.
