Winners of the Gorky Fest anniversary festival announced

This week, the 10th anniversary Gorky Fest, a celebration of contemporary Russian cinema, concluded in Nizhny Novgorod.

The festival’s top honor was awarded to the documentary “Quiet Meanings” (Tikhie Smysly), directed by Alexander Andronov and Anton Belousov. The film follows a theater troupe at the Nizhny Novgorod Youth Theater as they develop a play centered on a deaf-blind child. To prepare, the actors attempt to immerse themselves in the world of young Petya, his mother, and their daily lives, only to discover that reality is far more complex than any staged performance.

The award for Best Director went to Aleksey Fedorchenko for his work, “Myths of Hephaestus, the God, and the Construction Brigade.” The film chronicles the 55-year legacy of the “Hephaestus” student construction team from the Ural Polytechnic Institute.

Acting honors were bestowed upon Alexander Gridin and Maria Lukyanova for their roles in the short drama “What Do You See Here,” a poignant look at the dynamics of an abusive relationship. Additionally, Klim Shipenko, the director of the blockbuster “Serf,” received an honorary award for his significant contributions to the advancement of modern Russian cinema.
