Rupert Grint to Return as Ron Weasley on Broadway

Rupert Grint is set to revisit the iconic character of Ron Weasley, a role he first stepped into back in 2001. The actor will join the Broadway cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, portraying an older, more mature version of Ron. Grint is scheduled to grace the stage at the Lyric Theatre from February 2 to May 30, 2027.

More than 15 years after the conclusion of the beloved film franchise, Grint will inhabit his famous character once more, this time delving into a narrative focused on the adult generation of wizards and their children.

“Ron Weasley has been a part of my identity since I was eleven, and I am eager to reconnect with him at this stage of our lives. There is something profoundly meaningful about stepping back into Ron’s shoes now that we are both fathers. It feels deeply familiar, yet entirely fresh,”

Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender emphasized that Grint’s return serves as a bridge between the original Harry Potter saga and the central themes of The Cursed Child—family, legacy, and the passage of time. They noted that since the film series ended, Grint has built an impressive body of work across film, television, and theater, which he will bring to this iconic role.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child serves as a sequel to the core book series, shifting the focus to a time when Harry, Ron, and Hermione have entered adulthood. The plot centers on the new generation of Hogwarts students, including the children of the original trio.
