“Star Trek” Actor Walter Koenig Dies
American actor Walter Koenig has died at the age of 90, according to media reports citing his family.
He found his greatest fame in the original Star Trek series, which aired from 1966 to 1969. In it, he played Pavel Chekov, the Russian navigator of the starship Enterprise. The character was added at the height of the Cold War between the United States and the USSR, partly to draw younger viewers to the show.
Chekov also appeared in several of the Star Trek feature films. Another of Koenig’s best-known roles was the antagonist Alfred Bester in Babylon 5.
