“Klara and the Sun” Starring Jenna Ortega Flops at the Box Office
Taika Waititi’s new film Klara and the Sun opened in the US this week to a disappointing $725,000 over its first weekend. It is an adaptation of the novel by Kazuo Ishiguro (Never Let Me Go).
The film cost $20 million to make and stars Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) and Amy Adams (Arrival). The story is set in the future, where an android named Klara befriends a gravely ill girl and begins to develop human emotions.
Waititi (Jojo Rabbit) directed the film, and production wrapped back in 2024. Critics have savaged it, and it holds just 25% on Rotten Tomatoes.
