Godzilla Minus One Director Finds Cast for His Hollywood Debut
Deadline has revealed the actors who will take the lead roles in Grandgear, the upcoming project that marks the English-language debut of Japanese director Takashi Yamazaki (Godzilla Minus One).
The cast will include Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers), Sam Nivola (The White Lotus) and Nico Parker (How to Train Your Dragon). Yamazaki also wrote the screenplay, and the film is being produced by J.J. Abrams and Sony Pictures. Plot details are being kept under wraps, and filming is scheduled to begin in 2027.
Yamazaki was previously attached to another Hollywood project, Nue, which was being developed by Ridley Scott and 20th Century Studios. Whether that film will move into production remains unclear.
Godzilla Minus One was released in 2023 and won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. Its sequel, Minus Zero, is set to open in international theaters on November 6.
