Keanu Reeves to Star in Netflix Action Film
Keanu Reeves, the star of The Matrix and John Wick, will headline Maelstrom, a new action movie from Netflix.
Reeves steps in for Alan Ritchson (Reacher), who left the project for undisclosed reasons. Black Adam director Jaume Collet-Serra will direct.
The story follows a U.S. marshal assigned to protect the fiancée of an arms dealer. A sudden hurricane cuts the marshal off from the outside world and leaves the pair without backup. The groom and his henchmen see their chance to eliminate the bride. The marshal will do whatever it takes to fight them off.
Warner Bros. originally developed the project, and the first draft of the script was written in 1993 by Marc Bianculli (the series The Hunters). No release date has been announced.
Reeves recently appeared in Jonah Hill’s comedy Outcome. He will also take the lead role in a remake of the Korean thriller The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil.
