“Khrustalyov, My Car!” Star Yuri Tsurilo Dies

Renowned Soviet and Russian actor Yuri Tsurilo has passed away at the age of 79. His death was confirmed on August 27 by his son, actor Vsevolod Tsurilo, via social media.

Born on December 10, 1946, in the Vladimir region, Tsurilo began his career in regional theaters following his graduation from the Yaroslavl Theatre Institute. In 1993, he joined the esteemed company of the Alexandrinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg.

While Tsurilo made his cinematic debut in the 1966 film “Royal Regatta,” widespread acclaim arrived decades later. His career was defined by his commanding performance as General Glinsky in Aleksei German’s masterpiece “Khrustalyov, My Car!”. His filmography also includes notable appearances in “In August of 1944,” “The Priest,” “Silent Souls,” “The Fool,” “The Scythian,” and “Viy 3D.”

Tsurilo was also a familiar face on television, appearing in series such as “Bandit Petersburg,” “The Kukotsky Case,” “Diversant,” and various other productions. With his striking physical presence and powerful acting style, he became a sought-after talent for complex dramatic and character-driven roles.

The cause of Yuri Tsurilo’s death has not been disclosed. He passed away on August 26, 2026.
