Wes Anderson, the visionary director behind “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” is set to venture into the Western genre for the first time. The filmmaker shared his upcoming plans during a Q&A session at the Cinema Paradiso film festival in Paris.
Anderson was accompanied at the event by his frequent collaborator Bill Murray, who expressed keen interest in joining the production.
“We are going to make a Western. I think so. It’s something we’ve discussed for years. Owen and Luke Wilson will likely be involved as well… Like me, they hail from Texas—it feels like it’s our destiny,”
— the director remarked. Anderson’s most recent feature, “The Phoenician Scheme,” premiered in 2025 to favorable reviews, currently holding a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The director is also currently developing an untitled project in partnership with Roman Coppola.
This follows recent reports that Steven Spielberg is also exploring the possibility of helming his own Western project.
