Steven Spielberg is working on a film adaptation of the creepypasta “The Mandela Catalogue”

Following the success of *The Backrooms*, another viral internet horror sensation is heading to the big screen: *The Mandela Catalogue*, as reported by Deadline.

A trio of major studios—Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment, Amazon MGM, and United Artists—have secured the rights to develop a feature-length adaptation of the hit YouTube series. The film will be helmed by the franchise’s creator, Alex Kister, who is also co-writing the script alongside Tyler Clifton.

Since its 2021 debut, *The Mandela Catalogue* has established itself as one of the most influential entries in the “analog horror” genre. Set in the fictional Mandela County, Wisconsin, the story follows the inhabitants as they are terrorized by mysterious entities known as “alternates”—doppelgängers that systematically drive their victims to self-destruction.

In related news, A24’s *The Backrooms*, directed by Kane Parsons, has officially surpassed the $350 million mark at the global box office, though an official announcement regarding a sequel has yet to be made.
