He also pointed out that a new console means a new audience — many players might be encountering Skyrim for the first time on Switch 2, so making it available there is about accessibility and preserving the best possible experience for that hardware.

Still, given how frequently Skyrim has been reissued across platforms over the years — joining the ranks of titles that seem destined to appear everywhere — the announcement prompted amused surprise. Carofano conceded the point, noting that while it’s almost comical how often Skyrim returns, the aim remains to let as many people as possible play the game in the best way their platform allows.

At the current rate of re-releases, it’s easy to joke that The Elder Scrolls VI is a long way off — some quips even suggest fans will be receiving more Skyrim editions before the next mainline entry appears. With smaller systems occasionally outselling major consoles, publishers have every incentive to keep revisiting proven hits.

Todd Howard — looking remarkably ageless — has even joked that GTA 6 might appear before The Elder Scrolls 6, praising Rockstar as “some of the absolute best” when it comes to crafting worlds.
