Followers of Tatsuki Fujimoto were met with a startling revelation today: the second act of the Chainsaw Man manga is set to conclude in a mere two weeks. An editorial postscript following Chapter 231, released on March 10, confirms that Part 2 will reach its finale on March 24. With the series following a bi-weekly serialization, readers have only a single chapter remaining before this arc draws to a close.

Part 2 made its debut on July 13, 2022, marking a significant shift in the narrative. This era of Fujimoto’s acclaimed work has sparked spirited debate among the fanbase, with some critiquing its erratic pacing and condensed chapter lengths. Nevertheless, the series has maintained its status as a cultural phenomenon, bolstered by the introduction of Asa Mitaka—the complex host of the War Devil—who provided a fresh perspective to the visceral world.

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Chainsaw Man Chapter 231.

The latest installment begins with a surreal exchange, as Pochita informs Denji that they have been consumed by a Devil. After manifesting in his iconic Chainsaw Man form, Pochita delivers a harrowing assessment: Denji is fundamentally incapable of sustaining happiness, even when his aspirations are realized. In a poignant moment, Pochita remarks that Denji’s spirit was more resilient during the story’s inception, when his life was defined by the desperate struggle of selling organs and scavenging for food. “It turns out you possess the most tragic yet remarkable kind of mind,” Pochita observes. “One that only recognizes paradise when it is surrounded by hell.”

In a climactic gesture of sacrifice, Pochita begins to consume his own essence, effectively utilizing his unique power to erase the existence of the “Chainsaw Man” from the world’s consciousness. His goal is to grant Denji a final opportunity to “continue dreaming,” a sequence that concludes with a haunting return to the dilapidated shack where the protagonist’s journey first began.

With only one chapter left, the community is left grappling with numerous unresolved mysteries regarding the lore and mechanics of the world. However, this sudden conclusion aligns with Fujimoto’s reputation as a subversive storyteller who delights in defying industry conventions. His narratives often blend absurd shonen spectacle with deep emotional resonance—a complexity that usually rewards a comprehensive reread once the full picture is revealed.

Despite the looming “end,” a sense of optimism remains. Part 1 concluded with a similar air of finality before the announcement of a continuation. It is entirely possible that Fujimoto is laying the groundwork for a Chainsaw Man Part 3. Whether this is a definitive goodbye or a transition to a new chapter remains to be seen on March 24.
