Saber Interactive Boss Apologizes for Saying He Would Replace Writer with AI

Saber Interactive head Matt Karch has apologized to game writer Stella Sacco after publicly dismissing her claims regarding the use of artificial intelligence.

The dispute began when Saber Interactive announced plans to publish Rideshare “Stimulator”. Following the reveal, Sacco stated that the company had replaced her with AI tools during development.

Karch initially confirmed that the project uses AI technology, which prompted backlash toward other studio releases, while sharply criticizing Sacco in response to her claims:

As for Stella: she was replaced by someone more talented, and fired several months later for a variety of reasons. She seems to like drama even more than I do. Frankly, at this point, I would have loved to replace her with AI. At least then we would be dealing with someone who was programmed to be honest.

Sacco later shared that, to her great surprise, she received a lengthy email from Karch containing an apology for his remarks:

Matt said he regrets how things escalated and how I am being spoken about online. I don’t care about random commenters calling me names […] but having my skills and reputation, built over 20 years in game dev, publicly maligned by a person with institutional power was very hurtful […] I maintained firmly from the start that what I was saying was true, and I think everyone can now agree that has been borne out. Matt has expressed a desire to make amends. I don’t know what that looks like yet and will need some time to process, but I do at least accept his apology.

Recent user reviews for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 remain Very Positive, as pushback from AI critics did not drag down the game’s overall rating. Even so, discussions continue on community forums, where some players voice concern that the developers could introduce AI-generated content in future updates.
