If you equipped the Wanderer Crest in Hollow Knight: Silksong, noticed the moveset felt like the original Knight, and never switched back, here’s some good news: a new mod lets you play Silksong as the Hollow Knight. It looks oddly out of place, but it actually works remarkably well.
I first spotted the KnightInSilksong mod thanks to Chinese players; the original release is available on GitHub. Another user later mirrored and shared it on Nexus Mods, crediting creator MCXGK3. If you try it, back up your save—this mod can be unstable for a full run. It’s best suited for experimental play or paired with a boss-focused mod designed to complement it.
The mod has been circulating among Hollow Knight challenge runners, and it turns out the Knight is still a formidable combatant.
Major spoilers for Hollow Knight and Silksong ahead.
A clip shared by X user im esau shows the Knight dispatching Lost Lace, the final boss of Silksong Act 3 and arguably the toughest encounter in the game. The battle is lengthy, offers little breathing room, and includes high-damage attacks — even a rare three-damage strike — yet the Knight pulverizes the boss with calm efficiency.
ok most bosses are pretty easy it turns out(its been 2 months but silksong spoilers) https://t.co/fseTaiZb7q pic.twitter.com/l8qNK6gpcvNovember 2, 2025
In the clip, im esau evades many attacks and uses the ranged spell Shade Soul alongside the upward area spell Abyss Shriek to exploit openings that are much harder to access as Hornet. Equipping the Wanderer Crest makes Hornet move and feel closer to the Knight, but seeing the actual Knight in Silksong highlights how small mechanical differences — speed, reach, invincibility frames — reshape the flow of combat.
The most consequential difference is the dodge. In Hollow Knight, a fully upgraded dash grants invincibility frames; in Silksong, Hornet’s dodge is purely positional — it repositions her without phasing through attacks. Silksong’s encounters are tuned around that non-invulnerable dodge, so dropping an iframe-enabled Knight into the equation is like throwing a grenade into a room of carefully arranged vases.

Challenge runner talezshadid also clears Lost Lace with ease. Another YouTuber, Namdam_096, brings the Knight into the arena against Skarrsinger Karmelita, demonstrating how potent the Knight’s plunging strike, Descending Dark, can be.
The Knight is not without drawbacks: his healing is slower, cannot be performed mid-air, and restores only one hit point per use. Hornet needs to build more Silk to heal — a full Silk bar versus the Knight’s smaller Soul requirement — but Hornet can quickly recover three health points when she succeeds. Despite the trade-off, invincibility frames often outweigh the longer heal time, and boss transition windows usually provide a safe opportunity to mend wounds.
Interestingly, the Knight’s shorter stature means some attacks simply miss his hitbox, so the now-overpowered dodge isn’t always necessary. It’s an amusing consequence of Hornet’s taller frame — perhaps what Team Cherry meant when they said Hornet’s height required rethinking some combat scenarios.
Is the mod balanced? Not remotely. Is it thrilling to watch the Knight who started it all stomp through a new kingdom? Absolutely. For a comprehensive showcase of the mod in action, check out this 50-minute “Every Boss” compilation by LeonHK: Every Boss — LeonHK.
Upgrading Hornet’s weapon in Silksong often felt inconsistent; now it’s clearer why: Team Cherry’s special damage multipliers create wide variations in hits-to-kill.
