Violet Grohl has officially entered the music scene with her first original release. On Friday, December 5, the 19‑year‑old — daughter of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl — announced the arrival of her debut solo single, “THUM,” paired with a moody B‑side titled “Applefish.”

Sharing the news on Instagram, Violet expressed her excitement about finally revealing material she’s been developing over the past year and thanked the collaborators who helped bring the tracks to life.

The songs are available physically as a 7‑inch vinyl and digitally. Fans can purchase the vinyl through her Bandcamp page, where “THUM” is also offered for streaming while “Applefish” is available for digital download and on the record.

According to coverage from entertainment outlets, Violet has been quietly building toward this moment. She reportedly worked in a studio her father gifted her for her birthday and teamed with producer Justin Raisen — known for his work with Charli XCX, Drake, John Legend and Kim Gordon — during the sessions.

Violet first came into the public eye as a child in 2018 when she performed Adele’s “When We Were Young” alongside her father. Since then she’s made notable live appearances, including sharing a stage with surviving Nirvana members for a rendition of “Heart‑Shaped Box,” and contributing backing vocals for artists such as St. Vincent and Beck.

She has also lent her voice to Foo Fighters records — appearing on Medicine at Midnight and But Here We Are — and has taken part in tribute concerts honoring late drummer Taylor Hawkins. In 2021 she released a cover of X’s “Nausea” in collaboration with her father.

Most recently, Violet handled lead vocals for Nirvana’s “All Apologies” at the FireAid LA benefit concert in 2025, performing alongside Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, Pat Smear and Kim Gordon.
