Miyazaki Criticizes FromSoftware Development Rules

Hidetaka Miyazaki stated that FromSoftware deliberately avoids rigid rules when making games because doing so makes projects boring and conservative.

The studio is known for Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Dark Souls, but according to head Hidetaka Miyazaki, the developers do not have a single formula.

FromSoftware doesn’t have some overarching mantra like, “this is how we make our games,” because if you start operating like that, everything becomes boring and conservative. Over time, you have to stick to a certain set of rules and philosophy, and then it stops being interesting, and you can’t create things that bring enjoyment.

He added that the studio prefers to follow ideas it finds interesting. In his view, that is what unites FromSoftware games.

The Duskbloods also preserves the studio’s signature style while using unfamiliar elements for it, including ideas from extraction shooters. The game will release in 2026 exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2.
