Analysts Say Gran Turismo 7 Is Not on PS Plus Because It Has Earned Sony Hundreds of Millions of Dollars

Gran Turismo 7 has sold an estimated 12.7 million copies and generated about $840 million for Sony, far outpacing the estimated 1.3 million copies sold by Forza Motorsport.

Alinea Analytics analyst Rhys Elliott estimates that Gran Turismo 7 has generated around $840 million since its release in March 2022. Among current-generation PlayStation Studios games, only Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has generated more revenue, at approximately $1.3 billion. Gran Turismo 7 surpassed Ghost of Yotei, Helldivers 2, and Astro Bot. Elliott also estimates that Marvel’s Wolverine has sold 2.7 million copies.

Gran Turismo 7 continues to generate revenue four years after release. It sold 2.9 million copies and generated $189.7 million in 2023, followed by 2.7 million copies and $161.3 million in 2024, and 1.7 million copies and $119.1 million in 2025. In 2026, the game has already sold another 1.3 million copies, generating $74.7 million. Around 3 million people play each month, with a daily audience of 400,000 to 700,000 players.

By comparison, Alinea Analytics estimates that Microsoft’s Forza Motorsport sold 1.3 million copies and generated $89.9 million. Around 7 million people also played it through Xbox Game Pass. Over a comparable period after its release, Gran Turismo 7 sold 10.2 million copies and generated $676.1 million. Forza Motorsport, however, was not released on previous-generation consoles.

Gran Turismo 7’s strong commercial performance may explain why Sony has not added it to the PS Plus catalog. The game continues to generate hundreds of millions of dollars for the company, and including it in the subscription could reduce full-price sales.
