Mike Flanagan Hints at Unexpected Approach to Warhammer 40,000 Series Starring Henry Cavill
Mike Flanagan says the team behind the Warhammer 40,000 series has found a “really cool and unexpected” way to introduce viewers to the franchise’s vast universe.
In a recent interview with Deadline, Flanagan declined to share details:
“Henry Cavill would be furious if I gave away anything about what we’re working on. All I can say is that Warhammer is a fascinating world. As anyone familiar with it knows, the main challenge is finding an entry point: it’s incredibly vast. There are 700 novels, and that’s not counting the tabletop game, interactive projects, and a huge amount of other material set in the universe.”
In mid-October, Flanagan called the Warhammer 40,000 adaptation his “Everest of adaptations.” The writer said viewers could not simply be dropped into a huge universe with thousands of years of history and left to figure everything out on their own. They need a clear starting point, and his latest comments suggest the team has found one.

The series still has no release date, and the team has plenty of work ahead. In Games Workshop’s annual report in July, CEO Kevin Rountree warned against expecting a release soon:
“This is a long-term partnership with Amazon, and it will take years to successfully bring these adaptations to audiences.”
