“Minions and Monsters” underperforms at the box office

Last week marked the global theatrical debut of the animated blockbuster “Minions and Monsters.”

In the United States, the film grossed $39 million during its opening three-day weekend, marking the franchise’s softest start to date. International markets contributed an additional $98 million, bringing the film’s total global haul to $159 million, with China leading the charge as the top-performing territory at $16.3 million.

Despite the lukewarm box office performance, “Minions and Monsters” has garnered exceptional critical acclaim, currently boasting a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes—outperforming every previous installment in both the “Minions” and “Despicable Me” series. In this third chapter, the iconic yellow henchmen find themselves in 1920s Hollywood, where they attempt to produce their very own horror film. The voice cast features stellar performances from Jeff Bridges, Christoph Waltz, Jesse Eisenberg, and George Lucas.
