Marvel Zombies Tops Disney+ Charts, Proving Viewers’ Interest in Adults-Only Projects

The animated series Marvel Zombies has unexpectedly emerged as a flagship title on Disney’s streaming service.

Marvel Studios typically avoids overtly adult fare, favoring family-oriented projects. However, on September 24 the studio released its first Marvel Zombies animated series with a TV‑MA rating — the television equivalent of an R rating (adults only).

The show expands on the fifth episode of the anthology What If…?, where various Marvel heroes are transformed into zombies and the surviving heroes must confront them. The series includes numerous scenes of graphic violence, dismemberment, and other intense material, which prompted the mature rating.

Since its debut, Marvel Zombies has dominated the Disney+ charts, outpacing both new releases and long-running hits. According to FlixPatrol, the series held the No. 1 spot in the U.S. for the first three days before slipping to No. 2 on the fourth — a shift analysts attribute not to falling interest but to the show’s brief total runtime: only four episodes adding up to roughly two hours.

On FlixPatrol rankings, Marvel Zombies leads by a wide margin, registering two to three times the audience‑interest score of other Disney+ titles, including Alien: Earth, High Potential, and Grey’s Anatomy.

Previously, Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum said the studio would consider continuing Marvel Zombies if the inaugural season performed well. Based on the current performance, a second season now appears highly probable.
