Upcoming Resonant Launch Patch Will Fix Major Combat Issues

A towering entity from Control Resonant, highlighting the game's atmospheric combat encounters

As Control Resonant officially arrives today, developer Remedy Entertainment is swiftly deploying a day-one update to resolve the community’s most persistent pre-release grievance: encounters felt overly protracted, and protagonist Dylan Faden lacked sufficient early-game potency. While reviewers and early-access participants had to navigate a noticeably steeper difficulty curve, the broader audience should experience a far more balanced and fluid journey right out of the gate.

In an official developer blog post, Remedy acknowledged the widespread feedback—which has otherwise painted the game in a very positive light. Addressing these early critiques head-on, the studio noted, “We have decided to deploy a hotfix (1.3.3) at launch to address a few specific pain points: enemy health pools feeling excessive, the staggering process requiring too many successive hits before an execution, and Dylan’s initial combat impact feeling underwhelming for someone newly awakened from a coma.”

To drastically improve the pacing of skirmishes, the launch patch introduces several key adjustments:

  • Decreased base vitality and reduced Falter thresholds for standard adversaries, alongside specific tweaks for the Dancer and Deserter boss encounters.
  • Enhanced maximum Aberrant and Ability Strength scaling across the board.
  • Progressive power scaling that ramps up significantly toward the endgame, ensuring high-level upgrades yield substantially higher damage output.

Furthermore, the update decreases the currency cost required to respec skill trees, while merchants will now stock a greater supply of the specialized materials needed for talent reallocation. Additionally, interface descriptions have been streamlined to provide absolute clarity regarding Build Power and Aberrant weapon mechanics:

  • Aberrant Strength: The previous designation of “Multiplier X%” is now clearly defined as “Damage and Falter X%.”
  • Build Power: The formula description has been updated from “Calculated based on equipped Weapon Forms, Talents and Core Upgrades” to “Derived from unlocked Combat Abilities, Aberrant variants and enhancements, Talents, and Core Upgrades.”

Remedy has emphasized its ongoing commitment to refining the experience as players dive into the sequel today. Despite a few friction points in the combat loop, our time with the title proved immensely rewarding, earning it a stellar 8.5 out of 10.
