Two-time Academy Award winner Jodie Foster has remarked that the racing blockbuster “F1” bears the distinct hallmarks of being crafted by artificial intelligence.
“I don’t mean this dismissively—how could I? The film has generated millions at the box office. But when I watch ‘F1,’ I find myself thinking, ‘This was generated by AI, wasn’t it?’ The structural blueprint is exactly what they teach in film school. The actors deliver their lines with the precise cadence one would expect from a computer analyzing historical data. They’ve successfully mastered the technological workflow to assemble something massive and visually stunning, even if the creative DNA is largely synthesized from existing sources,”
— Foster shared during an event in Colorado.
She further emphasized that leveraging AI can be remarkably effective when applied to visual artistry. For instance, generative AI played a role in enhancing a scene in her recent project, the ironic detective drama “The Private Life.”
“If we can maintain mastery over these tools, over time, we will be able to craft works that truly reflect our humanity—we can make them even better,”
— Foster added.
The creative team behind “F1,” including screenwriter Ehren Kruger, has yet to respond to the actress’s comments. The film, which premiered in the summer of 2025, centers on a retired F1 driver (Brad Pitt) who returns to the track as a mentor to a promising young protégé (Damson Idris).
Directed by Joseph Kosinski (“Top Gun: Maverick”) and produced by Paramount Pictures and Apple Studios, “F1” made its theatrical debut in mid-2025. It went on to gross $634 million globally and secured an Academy Award for Best Sound.
