Later in the interview, Hamaguchi hinted that the word “Highwind” is an important motif for the third installment (thanks again, Genki) — a likely nod to the iconic airship fans expect to figure prominently in the finale. Hamaguchi previously said making Rebirth’s world explorable was a priority, and told The Washington Post that he wants to apply similar freedom when the Highwind comes into play.

Hamaguchi also explained that Square Enix aims to broaden the scale and feel of Part 3, delivering a different — and hopefully larger — gameplay experience than the previous two entries. He pointed out that dividing the remake into multiple releases let the team absorb player feedback after each chapter; producer Yoshinori Kitase has said that approach informed their development. As Hamaguchi put it, the third game should be an even better experience because we’ve learned what players enjoy and expect.

For now, we’ll have to wait for the studio’s official announcement, but the eventual title for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 should narrow the timing for a full reveal.
