Paramount and Activision have finalized the creative team for their planned Call of Duty feature. Peter Berg and Taylor Sheridan will co-write and produce the adaptation, with Berg attached to direct.
The duo are no strangers to collaboration — their previous joint efforts include the Oscar‑nominated Hell or High Water and the thriller Wind River.
No storyline or casting information has been released so far. Still, with decades of Call of Duty entries to draw from, the franchise’s Modern Warfare and Black Ops arcs offer plenty of material for a cinematic translation.
The project was first revealed in September, and Paramount chairman and CEO David Ellison said the studio intends to approach the film “with the same disciplined, uncompromising commitment to excellence that guided our work on Top Gun: Maverick,” ensuring it lives up to the expectations of the franchise and its audience. Read the announcement.
Berg’s résumé includes the war film Lone Survivor and several other action titles; Sheridan wrote Sicario and its sequel and has created series for Paramount such as Yellowstone, Tulsa King, and Landman. Sheridan’s television deal with Paramount runs through 2028, and his new agreement with NBCUniversal is set to begin in early 2029. Deadline has details.
This won’t be the first time Call of Duty has been eyed for the big screen. Activision launched Activision Blizzard Studios in 2015 to develop film and TV adaptations of its properties, including an earlier Call of Duty project with director Stefano Sollima that ultimately didn’t move forward.
