Robert Pattinson Responds to Chris Hansen’s Complaints About the Movie “Primetime”

Lance Oppenheim’s thriller Primetime recently premiered as part of the main competition at the Venice Film Festival.

The film centers on television host Chris Hansen and his iconic reality series, To Catch a Predator, which famously featured Hansen and his crew exposing alleged child predators. The show gained massive notoriety throughout the 2000s, and interest was further reignited by last year’s documentary Predators.

Chris Hansen has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the production, arguing that the filmmakers are exploiting his likeness for profit. He notably refused to sign an agreement with A24, keeping the door open for potential legal action. Furthermore, Hansen purchased ad space during every screening of Primetime to promote his own streaming platform, TruBlue, where he continues to host his investigative reports.

“Naturally, I hope he (Chris Hansen) enjoys the film. Our intention wasn’t to make a biopic about him. I hadn’t even considered that initially, but then I encountered the script and found something truly compelling in it. His persona served as an inspiration for many people working on the project, and I truly hope it can be viewed, at least in part, as a compliment,”

Director Lance Oppenheim revealed that he first encountered Hansen’s work through a South Park parody. Upon viewing the original footage, he was struck by the intensity, describing Hansen as a “mythical figure.”

The cast of Primetime also features Skyler Gisondo, Merritt Wever, Phoebe Bridgers, and others. The film is scheduled for international release on September 25.
