Renowned Batman and Birdman star Michael Keaton is set to helm the upcoming gritty Western, Rode to Ruin.

The film is slated for a 2027 theatrical release and will feature both Keaton and Morgan Freeman in leading roles, marking their first on-screen collaboration since 1988’s Clean and Sober.

The narrative follows a retired marshal (Keaton) who has spent four decades hunting his wife’s killer. His relentless pursuit eventually leads him to an outlaw suffering from memory loss (Freeman) and the discovery of a chilling, long-buried truth.

The screenplay was penned by R. Dean McCreary, known for The Pope’s Exorcist. This project serves as Keaton’s third directorial effort, following The Merry Gentleman and the thriller Knox Goes Away. Angel Studios, the company behind Animal Farm, will handle the film’s distribution in the United States.
