Filming Begins for Sergei Ursuliak’s Adaptation of “War and Peace”

Production has officially begun in Moscow on a new television adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s classic novel, “War and Peace.” The series is helmed by acclaimed director Sergey Ursulyak, known for his work on “Life and Fate” and “And Quiet Flows the Don.”

This ambitious project serves as a cornerstone for the upcoming bicentennial celebration of Tolstoy’s birth. It marks the first Russian television series adaptation since Sergei Bondarchuk’s Oscar-winning masterpiece debuted in 1965. The production is spearheaded by Moskinо with backing from the Internet Development Institute (IRI). The series is slated to premiere on the Russia television channel and the START streaming platform in 2028.

The ensemble cast features Nikita Volkov as Andrei Bolkonsky, Maria Zolotukhina as Natasha Rostova, Nikita Yazykov as Pierre Bezukhov, and Varvara Bochkova as Hélène Kuragina. They are joined by a stellar lineup of veteran talent, including Aleksey Serebryakov, Nikita Efremov, Mikhail Porechenkov, Sergey Makovetsky, Anna Mikhalkova, Yevgeny Koshelev, Svetlana Kryuchkova, Yevgeny Tkachuk, and Alexander Baluev, among others.

In related news, director Sarik Andreasyan has already wrapped production on his own cinematic interpretation of the novel, which is scheduled for theatrical release on February 18, 2027.
