The game is also beset by downright unbelievable technical problems.
On October 17 the first reviews of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 began to appear. According to critics, the title is a disappointment that fails to meet fans’ expectations. A gripping story, intriguing characters and a strong atmosphere are undermined by poor optimization and a dull combat system.
It currently holds a 65 on OpenCritic and a 67 on Metacritic.
While Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 isn’t particularly ambitious or flawless, it compensates for its faults with gripping gameplay, breathtaking environments, a solid narrative, and even more memorable characters.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is a nightmare. Its best qualities are fleeting, buried beneath the frustration of missing RPG elements and relentless technical failures.
Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2 may not be the sequel fans have been longing for since 2004, but it’s the sequel we have. Despite the underwhelming open world and persistent technical issues, exquisitely realized interiors, surprisingly engrossing traversal and combat mechanics, and the unconventional premise—two vampires striving to occupy a single body, each with their own motives—make Bloodlines 2 far more intriguing than I initially expected.
