EA Cancels Fight Night Reboot

EA could have revived Fight Night. The previous reboot concept was canceled about a year ago, and the franchise can now return only as a completely new project.

Virtual boxing fans have been waiting for a continuation of Fight Night Champion since 2011. Reports regarding a possible return of the series have surfaced regularly in recent years, with development allegedly moving beyond pre-production. The new installment was initially planned to be created after production wrapped on EA Sports UFC 6.

According to Insider Gaming, the previous reboot concept was canceled roughly a year ago. Work on the game was already on hold at that point, so EA likely abandoned the project in its original form long ago. This does not yet mean the final death of the franchise, as the game would be built from scratch if Fight Night truly returns.

A potential acquisition of EA by a group linked to the Saudi Public Investment Fund could serve as a chance for the series. Saudi Arabia actively invests in boxing, owns The Ring magazine, and organizes major bouts. However, any investment must have a financial justification, especially given the roughly $20 billion in debt associated with the deal.
