The live-action adaptation of the Norse saga God of War is steadily accumulating new details.
Deadline reports that Prime Video has enlisted Emmy winner Frederic Tua to direct the first two episodes of the God of War series. He previously directed episodes of Shōgun, Fallout and The Boys.
The project remains under the stewardship of showrunner, writer and executive producer Ronald D. Moore, best known for Battlestar Galactica and Outlander.
The series will adapt the Norse chapter of Kratos’s story, beginning with God of War (2018). Production is taking place in Canada: pre-production is currently underway in Vancouver, and casting for Kratos and Atreus has already begun. It has also been confirmed that Amazon ordered two seasons up front.
Prime Video’s decision reflects the scale of the production. Projects of this magnitude demand substantial investment in world-building, sets, costumes and props, and planning for multiple seasons allows those costs to be allocated more efficiently. It’s possible some work on both seasons will proceed concurrently — a strategy similar to James Cameron’s approach, who completed large portions of material for Avatar 4 even before its official production start.
