Saber Interactive Will Not Change Communications Policy After AI Controversy
Saber Interactive will not change its communication style and plans to continue experimenting with artificial intelligence while developing new games.
Along with developing games, Saber Interactive also acts as a publisher. The company will assist with the release of the taxi simulator Rideshare “Stimulator” from developer UNIGINE. This project has already managed to attract the attention of many gamers, but not in a positive way, as it ended up at the epicenter of a controversy surrounding artificial intelligence.
Representatives of Saber Interactive confirmed that Rideshare “Stimulator” uses AI—specifically to generate passenger stories in an optional mode—and insist that they will keep experimenting with AI technologies. This approach displeases some opponents of artificial intelligence, leading to online criticism of the company.
In a recent interview with PC Gamer, Saber Interactive Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits recalled his industry experience and noted that reasons for controversy always exist. He also confirmed that the studio will not alter its stance on AI following the backlash:
I have been in this industry for a long time—there is always a reason for hype. People were mad at Saber for releasing World War Z on Epic, saying things like, “Oh, Saber is destroying the industry.” And now 30 million people have played World War Z. Games will speak for themselves—even with this experiment with Rideshare “Stimulator”.

Tim Willits stated that Saber Interactive will continue striving to “make the best games” and let players evaluate them directly:
We are going to continue to strive to make the best games we possibly can. We will try to show them, give people a chance to play them, and let the players make their own decisions, because players are smart people, you know. If you make a good game, they will find it and they will play it.
Rideshare “Stimulator” can be added to your Steam wishlist via the following link. The developers have not yet specified a concrete release date or launch window on the store page. The game will launch on PC as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Steam can be accessed via the following link.
