Capcom Confirms Story Expansion and Free Updates for Resident Evil Requiem
Following the triumphant reception of Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom has officially greenlit narrative-driven expansions for the survival horror hit. Game director Koshi Nakanishi recently disclosed that a story-focused DLC is currently in active development, although specific details regarding the plot remain veiled in secrecy.
“We are in the process of crafting additional story content,” Nakanishi shared via a video update on the official Resident Evil X account. “This upcoming narrative will offer a more expansive exploration of the Requiem universe. Production is well underway, but as it requires significant time to polish, we appreciate your patience and look forward to sharing more soon.”
This move follows a well-established trend for the franchise. Modern entries have consistently received substantial post-launch support; Resident Evil 7 biohazard was bolstered by End of Zoe and Not A Hero, Resident Evil Village expanded through Shadows of Rose, and the Resident Evil 4 remake saw the return of the Separate Ways campaign.

Beyond the major DLC, Nakanishi teased several quality-of-life updates for the base game. Players can expect a dedicated Photo Mode and a “special surprise” slated for a May release. This surprise includes a brand-new minigame; while many fans are hoping for a revival of the classic “Mercenaries” mode seen in previous titles, Capcom may be heading in a more experimental direction.
In a series of playful slides, Nakanishi hinted at several quirky concepts that might influence future updates. One mock-up, titled “Forbidden Requiem,” humorously reimagined Leon S. Kennedy as a contestant on a dating show—a clear nod to his perpetually complicated romantic life. Other slides showcased an Inscryption-esque card battler, a Resident Evil-themed match-three puzzle game, and whimsical cat-head costumes for both Leon and Grace.

While some of these ideas are clearly tongue-in-cheek, they highlight the creative energy surrounding the title. Resident Evil Requiem is currently available on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox Series X, and the Nintendo Switch 2.
