The film Call Me by Your Name, starring Timothée Chalamet, has been officially banned in Russia. The ruling was issued by the Krasnogvardeysky District Court of St. Petersburg, as reported by Kommersant.
The court also prohibited the dramas Kill Your Darlings, featuring Daniel Radcliffe, and Greg Berlanti’s Love, Simon. According to judicial findings, these films promote a “destructive ideology” that contradicts traditional Russian values and incite an “interest in non-traditional sexual relations.”*
Set in Northern Italy during the 1980s, Call Me by Your Name is an adaptation of André Aciman’s 2006 novel. The film also stars Armie Hammer and Michael Stuhlbarg, with direction by Luca Guadagnino (Suspiria).
