Warner Bros. and Paramount are working on separate remakes of A Nightmare on Elm Street

Warner Bros. and Paramount are reportedly scrambling to fast-track their own individual reboots of the iconic horror classic “A Nightmare on Elm Street” before their impending corporate merger is finalized. This development was shared by Hollywood insider Matthew Belloni.

Warner Bros. is eyeing Lee Cronin, the visionary behind “Evil Dead Rise,” to helm their iteration of the project. While Paramount has yet to appoint a director, the studio has reportedly secured the full cooperation and blessing of Wes Craven’s estate.

The two studios are adopting distinctly different creative philosophies: rumors suggest that Warner Bros. plans to explore a bold, reimagined take on the franchise, whereas Paramount intends to pay homage to the source material by producing a more traditional, faithful remake.

The original “A Nightmare on Elm Street” debuted in 1984, introducing audiences to the charred serial killer Freddy Krueger (famously portrayed by Robert Englund), who haunts his victims within their dreams. The sprawling franchise spans nine films, including a 2010 reimagining that also involved original creator Wes Craven.

The proposed merger between Skydance, Paramount, and Warner Bros. Discovery has been officially postponed until the summer of 2027 due to ongoing legal complications.
