‘The Hunger Games’ Director Pitches an Idea for a New Installment
Francis Lawrence, who has directed several films in The Hunger Games franchise, would like the next movie to focus on Plutarch Heavensbee. He considers Plutarch one of the most compelling characters in the series and says Jesse Plemons, who portrays a younger version of him in the upcoming prequel, is an excellent fit for the role.
Audiences first met Plutarch in Catching Fire, where he was played by Philip Seymour Hoffman. The influential Gamesmaker was later revealed to be secretly working with the rebels and helping them organize resistance against the Capitol. Sunrise on the Reaping will explore an earlier chapter of his life, set during the Second Quarter Quell, 24 years before the events of the original story.
Franchise producer Nina Jacobson also welcomed the idea, describing herself as a devoted fan of the character. However, neither Lionsgate nor author Suzanne Collins has announced plans for another film. For now, Lawrence’s suggestion is simply one possible direction for the franchise’s future.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 26, 2026.
