Guidance to avoid meeting your idols hasn’t stopped Brie Larson — star of The Marvels — from joining the cast of the newly revealed first trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The announcement confirms Larson will voice Rosalina in the 2026 film, placing her alongside the franchise’s beloved characters — and, unsurprisingly, closer to Luigi, whom she’s long adored.
Rosalina, who debuted in Super Mario Galaxy, is the gentle guardian of the Lumas, the star-like companions of the series. Early footage suggests Larson will embody that maternal, celestial presence on screen — a part that aligns neatly with her well-documented Nintendo fandom.
Image: NintendoLarson’s affection for Nintendo stretches beyond Mario: she’s said she’s played every mainline The Legend of Zelda release on every Nintendo console and once used an unofficial Zelda cookbook to craft an elixir-inspired beverage. She’s frequently photographed with Nintendo handhelds on set and has taken paid ambassador roles for the company — from appearing in promotional spots for the Nintendo Switch to featuring in ads for Ring Fit Adventure and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. If Nintendo offers you a paycheck to play games, why refuse?
Some of Larson’s past comments — like calling Super Mario World 3D “one of the greatest achievements in Nintendo history” in a 2015 post — may now read like nostalgic internet artifacts, yet her enthusiasm remains unwavering. That dedication has led to memorable anecdotes: on her personal YouTube channel she recounts evicting her then-boyfriend for interrupting her attempt to finish the final level of Super Mario Galaxy, joking that she “takes it very seriously.”
While her devotion to Nintendo is clear, Larson has broadened her gaming interests. She challenged Jimmy Fallon to Beat Saber on The Tonight Show in 2019 and has shared that she plays Fortnite on her channel. So when journalists quiz her about gaming bona fides during the film’s press cycle, she’ll have plenty of proof to show.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to open in theaters on April 3, 2026.
