Replying to fan criticism on Twitter, Black Ops 7 design director Matt Scronce explained the reasoning: the change helps Treyarch collect clearer information about who is playing. “We’re trying to: Give players what they want as much as we can; Limit how many playlists we have active to focus population and data; Get solid testing, data, and feedback on matchmaking,” he wrote.
While that approach may frustrate parts of the community, it underscores the purpose of a public beta. Treyarch needs to determine which modes and systems work for players and which do not — and why. With a new Call of Duty being one of the biggest yearly launches, extensive research and testing are essential.
Still, the community’s response has been clear: many players want SBMM removed from Search and Destroy.
Black Ops developers say the series’ timeline influenced the wall-jump design rather than a full wall-run: “Black Ops 2 really gave us a foundation for the technology available.”
